Joseph F. Vitale (Democrat) has been serving in the New Jersey State Senate since 1998, where he represents the 19th Legislative District.

Senator Vitale is the Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, and is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Economic Growth Committee.

making health care services accessible to all New Jerseyans. To make his vision a reality, Senator Vitale has crafted numerous pieces of legislation to improve the quality and efficiency of the health care system in New Jersey.

Senator Vitale has sponsored numerous pieces of legislation that have become law focused on improving health care, protecting civil liberties, and strengthening ethics in our state government.

Senator Vitale created the FamilyCare Health Insurance Program, as well as legislation requiring nursing aides to undergo certified criminal background checks, the Emergency Health Powers Act, and the Patient Safety Act, which establishes a reporting system for medical errors.

Senator Vitale also sponsored laws supporting victims of crime and prohibiting gun ownership by those convicted of domestic violence offenses.

Covenant House New Jersey Sleep Out: Legislative Edition
On April 11, 2014 legislators throughout the state of New Jersey will be invited to sleep on the grounds outside of the State House for one night in solidarity with homeless youth. This legislative sleepout will raise awareness for the plight of kids on the street. It will also help raise the necessary funds to support homeless, runaway and trafficked youth throughout our state who are served by Covenant House.

About the 19th Legislative District
Joe Vitale represents New Jersey's 19th Legislative District, a diverse and beautiful area of New Jersey.
Senator Vitale represents Carteret Borough, Perth Amboy City, Sayreville Borough, South Amboy City and Woodbridge Township. The 19th District contains part of Middlesex County, including those communities adjacent to the Raritan River where it meets the Raritan Bay. The District has a higher than average population density. It has large Hispanic and Asian populations.

Upcoming Events
A Grateful Nation Remembers.

Each year Senator Vitale sponsors a bus trip for 19th District veterans to tour naval ships during Fleet Week in Manhattan. Aboard the ship deck he recognizes veterans for their service to our Country. If you are interested in attending this trip, please contact Jack McGreevey at the Senator's District Office.

Backpack Campaign for Foster Children.
Senator Vitale and Helen Evans of Stand for Children have worked together with Foster and Adoptive Family Services for more than ten years to collect backpacks for children entering foster care. At a time when everything become unfamiliar in a child's life, these backpacks are used by DYFS workers to pack a child's belongings when they leave their home. Middlesex County Habitat for Humantity Softball Game.
Senator Vitale challenges a radio station to a softball game every summer. Due to flooding the 2012 game was cancelled. This year’s game was set to feature a new partner, WCTC 1450AM and Magic 98.3 FM. One hundred percent of all money raised during the game is donated to the Middlesex County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
